Greetings and Happy New Year. I hope all of you had an enjoyable holiday season with friends and family. The Virginia Division CofC started off the new year by attending the Lee-Jackson Day ceremonies at the State Capitol where our President, Miss Mackie Storage, brought greetings and presented a wreath. Thanks to all our officers and members who were able to attend. We are looking forward to our Spring Board meeting, which will be held at the Museum of the Confederacy on March 10. We will have a special opportunity to view the flags made during the war by the Lanza children from Charlottesville, which the Division has been raising funds to conserve. For those of you who aren't familiar with the project, these are believed to be the only two flags in existence that were made by children during the war. If you have not yet had the opportunity to donate to preserving this very important part of Virginia's Confederate history, you can send your checks made out to "Virginia Division CofC" to me at 7680 Dowdy Drive, Henrico VA, 23231. Please make sure to indicate that it is for the flag project. We have reached the halfway point towards our goal of $6,700 and hope to be able to present our check to Cathy Wright from the Musem at the Virginia Division CofC convention in Fredericksburg in June. The convention will be held on June 16 at The Fairview at River Club, 10835 Tidewater Trail, Fredericksburg, Va. We have a block of rooms being held at the Best Western Fredericksburg, 2205 Plank Road, Fredericksburg, Va., for Friday night June 15. The room rate of $64.00 plus tax will be given when you mention you are with the Virginia Division Children of the Confederacy. This rate includes a full buffet breakfast. We will have a pool party with pizza on Friday evening, so make plans to come and join in the fun and fellowship. The official convention call will go out at a later date but you can call the hotel at 540 371-5050 anytime before June 1 to make your reservation. Don't wait too long. With this rate we are hoping to fill up fast! Please make plans to join us and don't forget to brush up on you catechisms for the quizzes! |
