On Saturday, July 18, 1998, Daughters of the Virginia Division and the District of Columbia Division of the UDC gathered at Manassas National Battlefield Park to commemorate the 137th anniversary of the Confederate route of Union forces on that field July 21, 1861.
The ceremony, which took place just outside the battlefield's Visitors Center, featured Washington Times editor-in-chief Wesley Pruden, who delivered a speech entitled "When Uncommon Courage Was In Season."
This year's ceremony was hosted by the Virginia Division, which alternates with the District of Columbia Division in planning and carrying out the annual commemoration in cooperation with the National Park Service.
