A MESSAGE FROM THE VIRGINIA DIVISION PRESIDENT ON THE FLAG SALUTE
[Posted January 30, 2002]The battle to keep the Salute to the Flag of Virginia as originally written is finally over. By a vote of 50-48, members of the Virginia House of Delegates voted yesterday to retain the recitation of Mrs. T.E. (Cassie) Gravely's words as part of its daily opening ritual.
I want to express my thanks -- and the thanks of all Virginia's Daughters -- to those who expended so much time and effort to ensure that our views were heard in Richmond. Please remember to send one final e-mail/letter to the House leadership, to your delegate, and to the editor of your local and/or regional newspaper to let them know that you are pleased with the outcome of the vote. They need to know that we have and will continue to have a voice!
