Jefferson Davis Funeral Album

Nine photographs record the December 11, 1889, funeral procession of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, whose body was carried through the streets of New Orleans to Metairie Cemetery and buried there in the tomb of the Army of Northern Virginia following his death on December 6. On May 27, 1893, Davis's remains were transferred to a new casket and placed in state at Confederate Memorial Hall for a day before being removed to the Louisville & Nashville train that carried them to Richmond, Virginia, for reinterment in the Hollywood Cemetery.

Virginia Military Institute Archives

The Virginia Military Institute Archives contain a wealth of 19th and 20th century collections. Holdings currently consist of more than 6,000 photographs; 400 manuscript collections, among them the Papers of Stonewall Jackson and Matthew F. Maury; Civil War resources, including correspondence and diaries; extensive official records, dating from the school's founding in 1839; rare books; and alumni biographical and genealogical information for 19th and early 20th century cadets. The latter is a particularly rich resource for information concerning Civil War veterans who attended VMI.

Southern Horizon

Southern Horizon has been performing 19th century period music since 1987 for reenactments, museums, conventions, schools, universities and private engagements. The ensemble performed at the centennial events for the Sons of Confederate Veterans and United Daughters of the Confederacy. They also performed for the Museum of the Confederacy's Bonnie Blue, Palmetto, Lone Star, Tar Heel, and All South Balls. These seasoned musicians research their music and performance styles and are equipped with their own sound system and period attire.
